The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) released Notification No. 07/2026 (Advertisement No. 740) on 11.08.2026 for the Combined Civil Services Examination – II (Group II and Group IIA Services) 2026, inviting online applications for 821 posts (plus one Water Resources Department post whose vacancy count will be announced later) across dozens of Tamil Nadu Government departments — from Deputy Commercial Tax Officer and Sub Registrar to Assistant, Accountant, and Jailor. 🎓 Educational Qualification
The baseline requirement for almost every one of the 821 posts is a Bachelor's degree from a UGC-recognised university. A handful of posts need something more specific:
- B.L. (Law) Degree required: Assistant Section Officer – Law (Code 1073), Assistant – Law/Secretariat (Code 1076)
- Master's degree in Computer Application / IT / Computer Science: Assistant Section Officer cum Programmer (Code 2215)
- Bachelor's in Commerce/Economics/Statistics: Assistant – Finance/Secretariat (Code 1077)
- B.Com specifically: Accountant – TN Handicrafts Dev. Corp. (Code 3357)
- Commerce degree + Typing: Junior Accountant – Fisheries Dev. Corp. (Code 3356)
- Master's / B.A.+B.G.L. / 1st-class Bachelor's: Assistant Section Officer – TNPSC itself (Code 2201)
- Typewriting (Higher Grade, English & Tamil): Special Assistant (Code 2265); Typewriting/Shorthand (Lower Grade) for Special Branch Assistant
- Physical & visual standards + Medical Board fitness: Jailor (Men) and Jailor (Special Prison for Women) — see notification Para 4.3 for height/chest measurements
All candidates must additionally have adequate knowledge of Tamil (via SSLC/HSC/Degree in Tamil medium, or TNPSC's Tamil Language Test), and the qualification must be held as on the date of notification (11.08.2026).
🗓️ Selection Process & Important Dates
Selection ratios: Onscreen Certificate Verification admits candidates at 1:3 (General Turn) and 1:2 (all Reserved categories) of the vacancies; Physical Certificate Verification & Counselling admits at 1:3 (General) and 1:1.5 (Reserved). Candidates selected for a Group II post are not considered for Group IIA posts in the same notification, and vice versa.

📝 How to Apply — Step by Step
- Register once at the One Time Registration (OTR) portal on www.tnpscexams.in (₹150, Aadhaar-linked, valid 5 years) — skip this if you already have valid OTR.
- Log in and click "Apply" against Combined Civil Services Examination-II (Group II & IIA Services).
- Fill in qualification, category, reservation, post preferences, and choose two Preliminary Exam centres.
- Upload a fresh colour photograph (taken on/after 11.08.2026) and signature in the prescribed size/format.
- Pay the ₹100 Preliminary fee online (unless exempt) and note your Application Number.
- Preview and submit — an application only counts once you click the final "Submit" button.
- Use the 13–15 Sep correction window if you need to fix any detail after the deadline.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Preliminary Exam on 25 October or 1 November 2026?
Several early articles (based on TNPSC's tentative Annual Planner) mentioned 25 October. The official Notification No. 07/2026 and Press Release No. 94/2026, both dated 11.08.2026, confirm the Preliminary Exam is on 01 November 2026, 9:30 AM–12:30 PM. Go with the notification date.
Is the last date 9 September or 10 September?
The official notification states the online application closes on 09.09.2026 at 11:59 PM. Any source saying 10 September is not matching the primary source as of publication.
Can I apply for both Group II and Group IIA?
Yes — you can apply for posts in both groups in the same online application cycle, but once selected for a Group II post you won't be considered for Group IIA (and vice versa) under this notification.
Will the vacancy count change later?
Yes. The notification explicitly states vacancies are tentative and liable to revision until Preliminary Exam results are published — including the Water Resources/Public Works Assistant post (Code 2262) whose count is still "to be announced."
Is there negative marking?
The notification does not mention negative marking for the Preliminary or Main Examinations of this recruitment.
