Contract engagement of retired Junior Engineers — Civil & Electrical
The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Regional Office, Ahmedabad, Gujarat Region, has issued a notification (File No. 37.A.12.35.2025.Estt, dated 10.08.2026) inviting applications from retired engineers for engagement as Junior Engineer (Civil) and Junior Engineer (Electrical) on a purely contract basis. This is a recurring engagement mechanism ESIC Gujarat has run before for similar posts, aimed specifically at retired government engineering personnel rather than the general public.

✅ Eligibility
- Junior Engineer (Civil): Must have held the post of Junior Engineer (Civil) or a superior post at the time of retirement from Central/State PWD or CPSUs/PSUs.
- Junior Engineer (Electrical): Must have held the post of Junior Engineer (Electrical) or a superior post at the time of retirement from Central/State PWD or CPSUs/PSUs.
- Preference: Given to retired Government Engineers with experience in building construction and maintenance.
- Maximum Age: 64 years as on 25.08.2026 (the last date for submission of application).
💰 Remuneration — How It's Calculated
For retired Government pensioners: A consolidated amount equivalent to your last pay drawn minus your pension drawn is payable, based on your level/rank at the time of retirement or superannuation.
For retirees from non-pensionable govt./semi-govt. employment (autonomous bodies, PSUs, etc.), a flat consolidated monthly remuneration applies:
- Junior Engineer (Civil): ₹33,630/- per month
- Junior Engineer (Electrical): ₹33,630/- per month
In addition, TA/DA is admissible for official tours, at rates applicable to regular Junior Engineers. No other perks/benefits — HRA, CCA, Transport Allowance, medical reimbursement — are allowed.

📌 Contract Terms & Other Conditions
- Selected candidates sign an Agreement per ESIC HQ Letter No. Pt. PS/SE-V/Staff Matter/2013-PMD dated 08.03.2018.
- Tenure: 1 year, extendable yearly on satisfactory performance, or until a regular incumbent is appointed — whichever is earlier. No extension beyond age 65.
- Purely contractual — terminable by either side with 1 month's notice, or remuneration in lieu, without needing to state a reason.
- Selected candidates may be assigned duties at their place of posting or any other office, hospital, institution, or project site under ESIC Gujarat region's jurisdiction, as required.
- Leave: Maximum 1 day per month of completed service, plus Government holidays. No other paid leave is admissible.
- Medical Fitness Certificate from a Govt. Civil Surgeon is required before joining, if selected.
- Vacancy count is provisional and may change without prior notice, at the competent authority's discretion.
- Canvassing in any form = disqualification.
- The competent authority reserves the right to reject any or all applications without assigning reasons.

Q1. Can a fresh engineering graduate apply for this?
No. This engagement is exclusively for candidates who retired as a Junior Engineer (or a superior post) from Central/State PWD or a CPSU/PSU. A fresh graduate, regardless of qualification, does not meet the eligibility.

No. Selection is entirely through Personal Interview.
Q3. How much will I be paid?
If you're drawing a government pension, your consolidated pay equals your last pay drawn minus your pension. If you retired from a non-pensionable background (PSU, autonomous body, etc.), it's a flat ₹33,630/month for either post, plus TA/DA for official tours — no other allowances.
Q4. Is this a permanent job?
No. It's a purely contractual engagement for 1 year, extendable yearly on satisfactory performance, and capped at age 65. Either side can terminate it with one month's notice.
