The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the official Information Bulletin for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) September 2026. CTET is a national‑level examination that determines the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers for Classes I to V (Paper I) and Classes VI to VIII (Paper II) in Central Government schools (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.) and schools under the administrative control of UTs. Online applications are open from 11 May 2026 to 10 June 2026. The examination will be conducted on 06 September 2026 (Sunday) in two shifts – Paper II (Morning) and Paper I (Evening).

💰 CTET September 2026 Examination Fee

Fee can be paid online through Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking. GST as applicable will be charged extra by the bank. Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Important: Fee submitted by any other mode (money order, demand draft, IPO, etc.) will be rejected. In case of unsuccessful payment, the transaction amount will be refunded within a week, and the candidate must pay again.

🎓 Eligibility Criteria (Minimum Qualifications)

The eligibility criteria for CTET are as per NCTE norms. Candidates are advised to visit ncte.gov.in for complete details. In summary:

  • For Paper I (Classes I to V): Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in 2‑year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) / 4‑year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) / 2‑year Diploma in Education (Special Education) / Graduation with at least 50% marks and B.Ed.
  • For Paper II (Classes VI to VIII): Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in 2‑year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) / B.Ed / 4‑year B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed or equivalent.
  • Relaxation: Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD) are allowed a relaxation of up to 5% in the qualifying marks in the minimum educational qualification.
🚨 Important: Being allowed to appear in CTET does not imply that the candidate's eligibility has been verified. The eligibility shall be finally verified by the concerned recruiting agency / appointing authority.

📖 CTET Exam Pattern – Paper I (for Classes I to V)

Paper I is for candidates intending to teach Classes I to V. All questions are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with one mark each. There is no negative marking. Duration: 2½ hours (150 minutes).

📖 CTET Exam Pattern – Paper II (for Classes VI to VIII)

Paper II is for candidates intending to teach Classes VI to VIII. All questions are MCQs (1 mark each). No negative marking. Duration: 2½ hours (150 minutes).

Note: Candidates must choose either “Mathematics & Science” or “Social Studies/Social Science” as the subject for Paper II. The choice must be indicated at the time of application.

Candidates must select two languages – Language I (medium of instruction proficiency) and Language II (different from Language I, focusing on comprehension). The following 27 languages are available:

Note: Language II must be different from Language I. The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi/English) for all sections except the language papers.

🏆 Qualifying Marks & CTET Certificate Validity

  • Qualifying Marks: A candidate must score 60% or more marks in the CTET exam to be considered as CTET pass. The certificate will be awarded accordingly.
  • Relaxation: School managements (Government, local bodies, aided, unaided) may consider giving concessions to SC/ST/OBC/PwBD persons in accordance with their extant reservation policy.
  • Validity: The CTET qualifying certificate is valid for life time for all categories. There is no restriction on the number of attempts a person can take for acquiring a CTET Certificate. A person who has qualified CTET may also appear again for improving his/her score.
  • Note: Qualifying CTET does not confer a right on any person for recruitment/employment. It is only one of the eligibility criteria for appointment.

📱 How to Apply for CTET September 2026 Online

  1. Visit the official CTET website: https://ctet.nic.in/ or CBSE website https://cbse.gov.in/.
  2. Click on the link “Apply Online” for CTET September 2026.
  3. Fill in the Authentication Form: State, Identification Type, Candidate's Name, Date of Birth, Gender, and Security Pin.
  4. Fill the complete Online Application Form and choose a password (8–13 characters, at least one upper case, one lower case, one numeric, one special character).
  5. Note down the generated Registration Number/Application Number for future logins.
  6. Upload scanned images of:
    • Latest passport size photograph (JPG/JPEG, 10–100 KB, dimension 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, taken after May 2026, with date written at bottom).
    • Signature (JPG/JPEG, 3–30 KB, dimension 3.5 cm x 1.5 cm).
  7. Pay the examination fee online using Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking.
  8. After successful payment, download the Confirmation Page and take a printout for record. Do not send the confirmation page to CTET Unit.
🚨 Important Instructions:
  • Candidate particulars (Name, Father's Name, Mother's Name, Date of Birth) should be exactly as per Class X Certificate. No change will be accepted after the correction window closes.
  • Correction window (limited to certain fields) will be open from 15 June to 18 June 2026. Fee once paid will not be refunded.
  • If a candidate submits more than one online application, his/her candidature shall be cancelled and may be debarred.
  • Admit cards must be downloaded from the website. No postal dispatch.

⚠️ Exam Day Guidelines (Important)

  • Reporting time: For Paper II (Morning) – 7:30 AM; For Paper I (Evening) – 12:30 PM (2 hours before start).
  • Last entry at the centre: 09:30 AM for Paper II and 02:30 PM for Paper I. No candidate will be allowed after these times.
  • Carry Admit Card (downloaded from website) and a valid photo ID proof (original).
  • Bring own Black/Blue Ball Point Pen – pens will not be supplied by the Board. Use of pencil for marking answers is strictly prohibited.
  • Prohibited items: Mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, calculators, log tables, any stationery (other than pen), wallets, bags, etc.
  • No rough work on OMR sheet – use the space provided in the test booklet.
  • Candidate must sign the attendance sheet twice: at the start of the exam and when handing over the OMR sheet.
  • Do not fold or make stray marks on the OMR sheet.
