🎓 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidate must have:

  • Passed Matriculation Examination (10th) with minimum 50% marks in aggregate from a Board recognised by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
  • Completed a three‑year diploma course from an AICTE recognised Polytechnic Institute with minimum 50% marks in aggregate in any of the following diploma courses:

Engineering Streams: Marine Engineering & Systems, Mechanical, Production/Automobile, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Repair and Maintenance, Power Plant Engineering, Industrial/Production, Maintenance, Machine, Manufacturing/Manufacturing Technology, Mechatronics, Metallurgy, Instrumentation, Electronics Instrumentation and Control Engineering.

Electrical Streams: Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation Technology, Electronics, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics Instrumentation and Control Engineering.

Age Criteria

Agniveer (Apprentice) 01/2027 Batch: Born between 01 December 2004 and 31 May 2009 (both dates inclusive).

Agniveer (Apprentice) 02/2027 Batch: Born between 01 May 2005 and 31 October 2009 (both dates inclusive).

Note: Candidates born between 01 December 2004 and 31 October 2009 are eligible to apply for INET 2/2026.

Marital Status

Only unmarried Indian male candidates are eligible. Candidates must give a certificate of being unmarried at the time of enrolment. Agiveers are not permitted to marry during the entire four‑year tenure. Marriage during service leads to dismissal.

Total Corpus Fund after 4 years: ₹5.02 Lakh (candidate contribution) + ₹5.02 Lakh (government contribution) = ₹10.04 Lakh (one‑time Seva Nidhi payment on completion).

Additional Allowances: Risk & hardship allowance, dress allowance, travel allowance.

Leave: 30 days leave per year + sick leave as per medical advice.

Life Insurance: Non‑contributory life insurance cover of ₹48 Lakh for the engagement period.

Death/Disability Compensation: In case of death attributable to service, NOK receives ex‑gratia of ₹44 Lakh (in addition to insurance cover). For disability, ex‑gratia of ₹44 Lakh (100%), ₹25 Lakh (75%), or ₹15 Lakh (50%) based on percentage of disability.

🚨 Important: Agniveers are not entitled to gratuity, pensionary benefits, or ex‑servicemen status. Engagement is strictly for 4 years. After completion, up to 25% of each batch may be enrolled as regular sailors (Artificers) based on performance and organisational requirements.

📝 Selection Process – Stage I (INET) & Stage II

The selection process consists of the following stages:

  1. Stage I – Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) 2/2026: Computer‑based online exam (100 questions, 1 hour, negative marking 0.25 per wrong answer). Separate papers for Engineering and Electrical streams.
  2. Physical Fitness Test (PFT): Qualifying only. Candidates must complete 1.6 km run in 6 minutes 30 seconds, 20 squats (Uthak Baithak), 15 push‑ups, 15 bent‑knee sit‑ups.
  3. Stage II – Written Exam: For candidates who qualify PFT. Similar pattern as Stage I (100 questions, 1 hour, 4 sections).
  4. Recruitment Medical Examination: Conducted by authorised military doctors as per prescribed standards.
  5. Merit List & Provisional Selection: Based on performance in Stage II written exam, subject to qualifying PFT and medical. State‑wise merit.
  6. Pre‑Enrolment Medicals at INS Chilka: Final medical check before induction.

Medical Standards

  • Height: Minimum 157 cm (no relaxation mentioned; check website for any exceptions).
  • Visual Standards: Uncorrected vision 6/12, 6/12; Corrected vision 6/6, 6/6; Colour Perception (CP) PASS.
  • Tattoos: Only permitted on inner face of forearms (inside of elbow to wrist) and on back of palm/hand. Any other body tattoo is not acceptable.
  • General: Candidates must be in good physical and mental health, free from any disease/disability that may interfere with duties afloat and ashore.
  • No gender reassignment or predominant opposite gender characteristics.

Note: Candidates are advised to get ears cleaned for wax and tartar removed from teeth prior to medical examination.

  1. Visit the official Indian Navy recruitment website: https://joinindiannavy.gov.in/.
  2. Click on "Register" and register as AVR (Apprentice).
  3. After successful registration, log in as "Apprentice – INET 2/26" and proceed to fill the application form.
  4. Fill in all personal, educational, and contact details accurately.
  5. Upload scanned copies of:
    • Passport size colour photograph (taken not before May 2026, with date written at bottom, size 10‑50 KB).
    • Live photograph captured through webcam during application.

  • Police verification form must be obtained from the Superintendent of Police of the candidate's jurisdiction (domicile or residence) and submitted at INS Chilka.
