⚡ 10-Second Verdict

This is a strong research opportunity for postgraduate engineering, science and PhD candidates — but eligibility is highly post-code specific.

SAC has notified 48 temporary research positions: 33 JRF, 8 Research Associate and 7 Project Scientist-I positions. There is no application fee, and online applications close on 30 September 2026 at 5:00 PM.
🚨 Biggest JRF eligibility trap: possessing the required M.E./M.Tech/M.Sc/B.E./B.Tech qualification is not enough for Post Codes 01–07. JRF applicants must also hold a qualifying NET, GATE or specified national-level examination result/score valid on the closing date.

Possessing the minimum qualification does not automatically guarantee an interview.

1
SAC receives eligible online applications.
2
If applications are large in number, candidates may be shortlisted on the basis of academic record and subject specialisation.
3
Shortlisted candidates are called for Personal Interview.
4
The final selection panel is prepared on the basis of interview performance only.
Interview call letters will be sent to shortlisted candidates through email only. Shortlist and interview schedule will also be published on the SAC website.

Tenure — These Are Temporary Research Positions

Post Initial Engagement Maximum / Project Condition
JRF 1 year Extendable based on work/project requirement; maximum 5 years
Research Associate 1 year Extendable based on assessment/project requirement; maximum 3 years

These positions do not create a right to regular ISRO appointment. Candidates should apply because the temporary research work suits their academic/career goals — not because they expect automatic absorption into ISRO.

Which Candidates Have the Best Post-Code Match?

Your Background Post Codes Worth Checking First
VLSI / Electronics / Semiconductor / RF 01, 02, 16
Photonics / Engineering Physics / Quantum Devices 03
Meteorology / Atmospheric / Ocean Sciences 04, 08
Geophysics / Earth Sciences 05, 11, 14
Computer Science / AI / ML 06
Remote Sensing / GIS / Geoinformatics 07, 10, 12, 13
Mathematics / Physics PhD 09
Water Resources / Hydrology 15
Better application strategy: do not start by asking “Which SAC post has more vacancies?” Start by identifying the post code whose exact academic discipline and research scope most closely match your degree, specialisation and research experience.

Final Candidate Advice

This is not a recruitment where candidates should look only at “48 ISRO vacancies” and submit a form.

There are 16 different post codes, and the qualifying disciplines vary significantly. The safest method is to identify your exact degree and specialisation first, then check the post code, marks/CGPA, age and any additional JRF or RA condition.

Do the eligibility check before preparing the upload files. A perfectly resized photograph cannot fix an application submitted against the wrong post code or an invalid academic qualification.
