What Is This Recruitment About?
Punjab National Bank (PNB) has invited online applications for 545 posts of Local Bank Officer (LBO) in Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I), distributed across 17 states/UTs. This is a recruitment specifically for experienced banking professionals — candidates must already hold at least one year of post-qualification work experience in the Clerical or Officer cadre of a Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank.
Candidates can apply for only one state. Applying against one state's vacancy makes a candidate ineligible to apply against any other state's vacancy, and requires proficiency in that specific state's mandatory local language.

Eligibility Criteria
Nationality/Citizenship
An applicant must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962 with intent to settle permanently, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with intent to settle permanently. Candidates in the latter categories must hold a Government of India eligibility certificate issued before the notification date, and must also be proficient in the local language of the state applied for.

Candidates must possess a valid Mark-sheet/Degree Certificate confirming graduate status on the day of registration, and must indicate their Graduation percentage while registering online.
Local Language Requirement
Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the specified local language of the state applied for. A Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT), conducted by an external agency, is mandatory for candidates who haven't studied that language as a subject in Class 10 or Class 12.
Post-Qualification Work Experience (Mandatory)
- Minimum one year of post-qualification work experience in Clerical/Officer Cadre in any Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank listed in the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934.
- One advance increment payable for each completed prior year of service as an Officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank (max. 2 increments), if the candidate's job profile matches that of a Scale-I Generalist Officer of PNB.
- Candidates from subsidiaries of Scheduled Commercial Banks (Officer cadre) are eligible for only one advance increment under the same condition.
- Proof of prior experience must be submitted in the prescribed format, certified by the previous/existing employer.
- Experience in other financial institutions won't count if the job profile doesn't substantially match a PNB Scale-I Generalist Officer role.
- No prior service/experience is considered for seniority purposes.
Cut-off Dates

- The qualifying examination's result must have been declared on or before 09.08.2026.
- Percentage in Graduation must be indicated to the nearest two decimals; CGPA/OGPA must be converted per the university's official formula — a fraction is always rounded down (e.g., 59.99% is treated as less than 60%).

SC/ST/OBC(NCL) relaxation can be combined cumulatively with only one of the remaining categories above. There is no reservation for Ex-Servicemen in direct Officer-cadre recruitment, though age relaxation still applies.

Negative marking: ¼ mark deducted per wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks: 40% for General/EWS, 35% for Reserved categories, in each section.
II. Screening
Applications and documents of written-test-qualified candidates are scrutinized to confirm eligibility before LLPT/Interview. Candidates found ineligible or with false/incorrect documents at any stage are rejected outright.
III. Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT)
Mandatory for candidates who haven't studied the applied-state's local language in Class 10/12. Qualifying in nature — candidates who fail are ineligible for final selection regardless of performance elsewhere. Assesses reading, writing, and speaking proficiency. Exempted candidates must submit valid documentary evidence at verification.
IV. Personal Interview
All written-test-qualified candidates are called for interview (50 marks). Minimum qualifying marks: 45% (22.5) for SC/ST, 50% (25) for others. Candidates below this are disqualified.
Final Selection
Based on combined Written Test + Interview marks, subject to qualifying LLPT (where applicable). Merit list is state-wise and category-wise. Ties are broken by age (older candidate ranked higher).
Deployment & Service Terms
- Selected candidates are designated "Local Bank Officer," on 2-year probation from date of joining.
- After induction training, deployed within Circles of the selected state.
- Remain posted in that state until 9 years of service or promotion to SMG Scale IV, whichever is earlier.
- Indemnity Bond: Must serve at least 3 years, or pay ₹2,00,000 if leaving earlier.
- CIBIL Score: Minimum 680 required at time of joining (not a pre-condition to apply; candidates without a bank account are exempt from this requirement).
- Candidates previously separated from PNB (or its merged entities) for reasons other than VRS/Resignation are not eligible to apply.
