What Is This Recruitment About?
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) — the residential co-educational school system under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Ministry of Education — has invited online applications for empanelment/engagement of Hostel Superintendents (Female), purely on contract basis, for the academic session 2026-27. This engagement covers JNVs run in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir (U.T.), Ladakh (U.T.), and Chandigarh (U.T.) — collectively the NVS Chandigarh Region.
Since JNVs are residential in nature, it is mandatory for Hostel Superintendents to reside within the Vidyalaya campus to attend to residential school duties, responsibilities, and hostel monitoring.
Note: These vacancies are tentative and subject to change.

Qualification Scheme
A panel of Hostel Superintendents across different categories will be formed based on candidates' essential academic qualifications, higher qualification in the relevant field, work experience in relevant subjects at recognized schools, and performance in personal talk.

Age Limit
Minimum age as on 1st May 2026: 35 years for engagement. Maximum age limit: 62 years as on 1st May 2026.

Documents Required
- Experience certificate from previously served institutions/defence establishments, clearly mentioning the date of issuance.
- Self-attested photocopies of both sides of all documents, and mark lists of each semester/year of Degree/Post-Graduation/Diploma, with originals — to be brought at the time of document verification.
- Any Government-issued ID proof with photocopy, at the time of document verification.

- Only shortlisted candidates (per criteria fixed by the Samiti) will be informed of personal interaction via their registered E-mail ID. The venue will be communicated the same way.

Annexure-I: Duties & Responsibilities of Hostel Superintendents in JNVs
A. Exclusive Duties
1. Ensuring Cleanliness, Maintenance & Upkeep of Dormitories
- Housekeeping staff clean the dormitories (wash rooms, toilets, staircases, common areas) twice a day.
- Drains around the dormitories are cleaned daily.
- Appropriate cleaning materials are used by housekeeping staff for toilets and washrooms.
- Waste generated in the dormitories is disposed of twice a day.
- Dustbins are available in the dormitories.
- Regular grass/bush cutting and cleanliness around dormitories (once a fortnight).
- Electrical wiring and switch boards checked; faulty ones repaired immediately through ECP.
- All basic facilities (water, electricity, fans, furniture, bedding) available — shortages/malfunctions reported to the Principal/HM.
- Broken windows, doors, window panes, and other M&R issues reported to the Principal/Vice-Principal.
- Any other related duty assigned by the Principal.
2. Safety & Security of Students
- Daily visits to dormitories and surroundings, ensuring cleanliness and no risk/danger; issues reported to the Principal/HM for immediate action.
- Close watch on student activities and movements in residential areas, particularly during non-academic hours (own time, Sundays, holidays, and at night); incidents reported to HM/VP/Principal.
- Ensure dormitories are locked (via Caretakers) when students are out for activities.
- Maintain a record of visitors to the hostels, submitted to the Principal for counter-signature.
- Any other duties assigned by the Principal.
3. Distribution of Items of Student Entitlements
- JSA (Storekeeper)/Office Superintendent provides daily-use items, bedding items, stationery items, and uniform for onward distribution to students.
- Hostel Superintendent distributes items to students per schedule and keeps records.
4. Daily Routine
- Ensure students get up in the morning per the daily routine schedule.
- Ensure students report for different activities per schedule.
- Supervise that all students get up and sleep on time.
- Ensure Caretakers/Matrons escort students to different activities.
- Lights turned off per schedule; rounds carried out even after lights-off, for security.
- Ensure students don't sneak out of dormitories.
- Any other duties (Principal assigns duties to caretakers, guards, housekeeping staff in a staggered manner, under Hostel Superintendent's supervision).
5. Leave to Students
- Process students' leave applications after House Master recommendation and Principal's signature/approval; allow out-pass under authentic escort (parent/guardian as per record).
- Maintain a day-wise record of out-passed students, capturing: Date/Time of out-pass, reason, Name of student, House, Class, Escort, Relation with student, Contact No., Date of reporting back, Signature of escort, Signature of concerned HM.
- Provide out-passed student info to concerned House Masters in real time.
- Allow in-pass to a student reporting back from leave under authentic escort; maintain a similar day-wise record of in-passed students.
- Provide in-passed student info to concerned House Masters in real time.
- Checking of students' belongings at the time of reporting after availing leave (other than vacation/break) — belongings checked by HM and AHM after vacation/break specifically.
B. General Duties
- Be affectionate and polite with children.
- Attend to all aspects of well-being, comfort, and happiness of hostel students.
- Work in coordination with VP/HMs/AHMs/Office-Superintendent.
- Be courteous to parents, building confidence that their child lives in a safe, secure environment.
- Be impartial and fair to all students equally.
- Provide regular orientation on safety precautions, guidelines, and principles.
- Maintain cautious conduct, behaviour, character, habits, punctuality, and moral values at all times.
- Brief the Principal immediately to resolve problems beyond their reach/domain.
- Report to the Principal only, though may intimate house-related issues to concerned House Masters/Associate House Masters, who may in turn flag necessary M&R work/cleanliness issues.
- Any other duties assigned by the Principal.
Annexure-II: Contractual Engagement Agreement — Full Terms
This is the actual agreement format executed between the selected candidate (Contractee) and the Principal of the concerned JNV, on behalf of NVS:
- The contract runs for a fixed period from the date of engagement and automatically stands terminated at expiry unless extended beforehand. Short-term breaks within the tenure are included in the period for which remuneration is paid.
- Either party may terminate the contract by giving one month's notice, or one month's remuneration in lieu — no reason needs to be communicated.
- During the contract, the Contractee is entitled to a consolidated monthly fixed amount at approved rates notified by NVS from time to time. Present approved rate: ₹35,750/month.
- The Contractee will efficiently and diligently perform the duties (per Annexure-I) and devote their whole time to service.
- The Contractee will not engage in any trade, business, or occupation on their own account, directly or indirectly.
- The Contractee is entitled to one Casual Leave per month, subject to approval by the Controlling Authority.
- JNV, as a co-residential school setup, expects respectful and fair treatment of all associated individuals. Unacceptable behaviours (Don'ts) are listed in Annexure-III — violation may result in termination of engagement without assigning any reason, and no correspondence on this will be entertained.
- All taxes, including TDS, will be deducted as per Income Tax Rules and other applicable rules.
- The engagement is purely contractual — the Contractee has no claim to regularization, nor any claim on regular sanctioned positions of the Samiti.
- Upon expiry of the contract period, there is no right to continuation/re-engagement. Re-engagement, if any, follows a review of service performance, utility, and usefulness — and is solely NVS's discretion, even where performance has been good.
- The Contractee must attend orientation/training programs as organized.
- ...for smooth adjustment and capacity building.
- The Contractee will perform any assigned job beyond their specific duties, as conveyed by the Samiti (including the Principal).
- The Contractee must not reveal any Vidyalaya data/information to any outside person, during or after the contract — breach is treated as a breach of trust and may attract legal action.
- The Contractee must also discharge duties/responsibilities per Annexure-I, in addition to the terms above.
- The Contractee/Hostel Superintendent will be provided shared single accommodation inside campus, preferably in the Hostel, if available.
- Any dispute regarding engagement/re-engagement is subject to the jurisdiction of the Hon'ble Court of Law in the concerned District where the JNV is located.
- Do's and Don'ts applicable to regular staff apply equally to the Contractee, along with other Do's/Don'ts in practice at the JNV.
Annexure-III: Examples of Misconduct (Don'ts)
Behaviours that would be considered a violation of JNV rules of conduct and may lead to termination of engagement include:
- Immoral or indecent conduct
- Conviction of a felony, or of a misdemeanour involving moral turpitude while an employee
- Violation of local, state, or federal law causing unfavourable publicity, or impairing credibility/job performance
- Theft, inappropriate removal, or wilful destruction of company/fellow employee's property
- Working under the influence of, or possessing/distributing/selling/using, alcohol or illegal drugs on duty or premises
- Fighting or threatening violence — including causing physical injury, making threats, aggressive/hostile/intimidating behaviour, or intentionally damaging NVS/others' property
- Possession of a weapon on NVS property or NVS business
- Sexual or other harassment
- Sabotaging another's work; making malicious/false/harmful statements about others
- Publicly disclosing another's private information
- Possession of dangerous/unauthorized materials (explosives, firearms) in the workplace
- Unauthorized disclosure of confidential information/business secrets
- Falsifying records or reports, including time records
- Excessive absenteeism or tardiness; inattentiveness to work (including leaving work without authorization)
- Posting unauthorized materials on walls/bulletin boards, or defacing/removing authorized material
- Violation of safety rules/practices; smoking in prohibited areas
- Failure to report for work without notifying the supervisor within two hours of the scheduled workday start
- Vending, soliciting, or collecting contributions on premises/time without prior authorization
- Gambling, lottery, or any game of chance on premises during working hours
- Any other offense of equal magnitude to the above

Q1. Is this a permanent government job?
No. This is a purely contractual engagement — the contract automatically terminates at expiry, and the Contractee has no right to continuation, re-engagement, or regularization, regardless of performance.

Q3. What is the minimum qualification required?
