SSC JE 2026 Vacancy Details

SSC has announced 1,748 tentative vacancies. The detailed post-wise and category-wise tentative/final vacancy list will be published separately on the SSC website under For Candidates > Tentative Vacancy. SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancy data, so candidates seeking that breakup must contact the concerned user department.

Vacancy status: The total is tentative and may change. Reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD will apply according to vacancies reported by the participating organisations. There is no Ex-Servicemen reservation because these are Group B posts, although eligible ESM candidates can claim the notified age relaxation.

Participating Organisations and Post-wise Qualification

The qualification must be possessed by the closing date of the online application. Where experience is required, it must have been gained after completing the prescribed educational qualification; internship, training or research undertaken during the qualification does not count as the required experience.

Selection Process

  1. Paper I CBE: Qualifying paper used for category-wise shortlisting.
  2. Paper II CBE: Normalized marks determine final merit.
  3. Post/department preferences: Candidates must submit preferences when SSC opens the online option form.
  4. Final allocation: Based on Paper II merit, eligibility and submitted preferences.
  5. Document Verification: Conducted by the concerned user department after the final result.
  6. Physical/medical standards: Applicable where prescribed, particularly for BRO posts.
Preference warning: Post and department preferences are final and irreversible. If a candidate does not submit preferences within the specified period, the candidate will not be considered for final allocation. If allotted a preferred post but later found ineligible for its special educational, physical or medical conditions, SSC will not necessarily reallocate the candidate to another preference.

BRO Special Conditions

  • Only male candidates are eligible for Junior Engineer posts in the Border Roads Organisation.
  • BRO JE posts carry specific physical, medical and physical efficiency standards detailed in Annexure XVI of the official notice.
  • Candidates should review those standards before giving BRO a high preference because failure at the BRO testing stage may not lead to reallocation to another department.

How to Apply Online

  1. Visit ssc.gov.in or use the official mySSC mobile application.
  2. Complete One-Time Registration on the new SSC website. An OTR created on the old ssc.nic.in website is not valid on the new portal.
  3. Log in and open the Junior Engineer Examination, 2026 application under the Live Examination section.
  4. Select the correct post, qualifying education level and technical subject. Enter the degree/diploma, board/university, passing year, marks/CGPA and other requested details.
  5. Choose three examination centres in order of preference. The choices must be from the same SSC region.
  6. Capture a live, front-facing photograph in good light against a plain background. Do not wear a cap, mask or spectacles.
  7. Upload the signature in JPEG/JPG format, 10-20 KB, approximately 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm.
  8. Preview every entry, submit the form, and pay the fee if applicable.
  9. Confirm the payment status and keep a printout/copy of the final submitted application.
Aadhaar authentication: SSC advises Aadhaar-based authentication during OTR/application. Candidates who use it receive the application/photo-signature benefits described in the notice and face simplified identity-document requirements at the examination venue. Candidates may also follow the non-Aadhaar document route prescribed by SSC.

Documents to Keep Ready

  • Active mobile number and email ID for OTP verification
  • Aadhaar number, or the permitted alternative identity and supporting documents
  • Class 10 board, roll number, passing year and certificate details
  • Relevant diploma/degree mark sheets and certificate
  • Experience certificate for posts where experience is mandatory
  • Category, EWS, PwBD, ESM or age-relaxation certificate, if applicable
  • Live photograph and scanned signature in the prescribed format
  • NOC at Document Verification if already employed in Government/Government undertaking

Correction Window

Eligible applicants can correct and resubmit their completed application up to two times from 28 to 30 September 2026. The first corrected submission costs ₹200 and the second costs ₹500. After the window closes, SSC will not accept correction requests by post, fax, email, hand delivery or any other method.

Admit Card and Examination Entry

  • Exam city/timetable information will normally be available about 10 days before the examination.
  • The Admission Certificate download facility will generally open 3-4 days before the examination.
  • SSC will not send the Admission Certificate by post or email.
  • Non-Aadhaar-authenticated candidates must report as instructed and carry the additional original photo ID and photographs/documents prescribed in the notice/admit card.
  • A blurred signature in the application can result in summary rejection.

Indicative Syllabus

Paper I tests General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness and the candidate's chosen technical discipline. Paper II focuses entirely on the chosen technical discipline at approximately the level of a Diploma in Engineering. IMD Scientific Assistant and JE Telecom streams follow the separate Computer Science/IT, Electronics & Telecommunication, Physics or Telecommunication syllabi listed in the notification.

Because the detailed discipline-wise syllabus is extensive, candidates should study Paragraph 14 of the official notification before planning preparation.
