IBPS RRB Syllabus 2026 — Clerk & PO Prelims/Mains Complete Topic-Wise Guide

For Office Assistant (Multipurpose) & Officer Scale I • CRP RRBs-XV • 13,706 Indicative Vacancies

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has started the Common Recruitment Process for Regional Rural Banks-XV, commonly known as IBPS RRB 2026. Candidates preparing for Office Assistant (Multipurpose), often searched as IBPS RRB Clerk, or Officer Scale I, commonly searched as IBPS RRB PO, should understand the examination structure before beginning serious preparation.

This Sarkari Nokrii guide explains the IBPS RRB syllabus 2026, Prelims and Main exam pattern, subject-wise preparation topics, negative marking, important exam dates and a practical study strategy for CRP RRBs-XV.

Important clarification: IBPS officially specifies the tests/sections, number of questions, marks, duration and examination rules. It does not provide a chapter-by-chapter syllabus containing every individual topic. Therefore, the detailed topic lists in this guide should be treated as a preparation framework based on the official test sections and commonly tested banking-exam concepts, not as a verbatim official syllabus.

IBPS RRB Negative Marking 2026

There is a penalty for incorrect answers in the objective examinations. For every answer marked incorrectly, one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question is deducted.

  • Correct answer: marks assigned to that question are awarded.
  • Wrong answer: one-fourth of the assigned marks is deducted.
  • Question left unanswered: no penalty.

This makes accuracy extremely important. Blind guessing can reduce an otherwise good score.

IBPS RRB Reasoning Syllabus 2026 — Topic-Wise Preparation List

Regional Rural Banks — Important Area for RRB Aspirants

Because the recruitment is specifically for Regional Rural Banks, candidates should understand the role and basic structure of RRBs instead of treating the examination exactly like any other bank recruitment.

  • Purpose and role of Regional Rural Banks
  • Rural credit and financial inclusion
  • Agriculture and rural development initiatives
  • NABARD and rural banking
  • Priority sector lending
  • Self-Help Groups
  • Financial inclusion schemes
  • Basic agriculture and rural economy-related current affairs

IBPS RRB Computer Knowledge Syllabus 2026

  • Operating Systems
  • Memory and Storage Devices
  • Computer Generations
  • Microsoft Windows Basics

IBPS RRB Clerk vs PO Syllabus — What Is the Difference?

Point Office Assistant / Clerk Officer Scale I / PO
Official Post Name Office Assistant (Multipurpose) Officer Scale I
Prelims Mathematical Test Numerical Ability Quantitative Aptitude
Prelims Questions 80 80
Prelims Marks 80 80
Main Questions 200 200
Main Marks 200 200
Interview No Yes

Prelims vs Mains — What Changes?

The jump from Prelims to Mains is significant.

Prelims:

  • Only two tests
  • Strong focus on speed
  • Reasoning + Numerical Ability/Quantitative Aptitude
  • 80 questions
  • 45 minutes

Mains:

  • Five test areas
  • Reasoning
  • Computer Knowledge
  • General Awareness
  • English or Hindi Language
  • Numerical Ability/Quantitative Aptitude
  • 200 questions
  • 200 marks
  • 120 minutes

This is why waiting for the Prelims result before beginning General Awareness, Computer Knowledge and Language preparation can be risky.

How to Prepare for IBPS RRB Prelims 2026

1. Build Calculation Speed

Spend a short period every day practising percentages, fractions, squares, cubes, multiplication and common calculation shortcuts. The objective is not to memorise tricks blindly but to reduce time spent on routine calculations.

2. Master Short Reasoning Topics First

Build confidence using inequality, syllogism, blood relation, direction and ranking before moving heavily into complex puzzles.

3. Practise Puzzles Daily

Reasoning carries half of the Prelims paper. A candidate who avoids puzzles during preparation may struggle when several questions are linked to one arrangement set.

4. Use Sectional Timers

Practise Reasoning in a 25-minute environment and Quant/Numerical Ability in a 20-minute environment. This is more realistic than solving unlimited questions without a timer.

5. Analyse Mock Tests

Do not judge a mock test only by the final marks. Check:

  • Questions you answered incorrectly
  • Questions that consumed too much time
  • Topics repeatedly skipped
  • Accuracy percentage
  • Easy questions you failed to attempt

IBPS RRB 90-Day Preparation Framework

Phase 1 — Build Fundamentals

Objective: Understand concepts and identify weak areas.

  • Study arithmetic concepts systematically.
  • Complete basic Reasoning topics.
  • Begin puzzles and seating arrangements.
  • Start a daily current-affairs habit.
  • Begin Computer Knowledge fundamentals.
  • Read English or Hindi regularly depending on your chosen Main language.

Phase 2 — Increase Speed

  • Solve timed topic tests.
  • Attempt sectional tests.
  • Mix easy and moderate questions.
  • Maintain an error notebook.
  • Revise formulas and common calculation patterns.
  • Continue General Awareness preparation.

Phase 3 — Exam Simulation

  • Take full-length mock examinations.
  • Follow actual sectional timing.
  • Reduce unnecessary guessing.
  • Review every mock carefully.
  • Revise weak chapters instead of continuously starting new material.

Suggested Daily Study Plan

AreaSuggested Daily Focus
ReasoningConcept practice + at least one puzzle/arrangement set
Quant/Numerical AbilityCalculation practice + arithmetic/DI
General AwarenessCurrent affairs + banking/rural banking revision
Computer KnowledgeShort daily revision
LanguageReading + grammar/vocabulary practice
TestingSectional or full mock according to preparation stage

The exact number of study hours should depend on the candidate's available time and current level. A consistent two-hour routine is more useful than an unrealistic schedule that cannot be maintained.

Most Important Preparation Rule: Don't Prepare Only for Prelims

Preparation Verdict:

Begin Prelims-focused preparation immediately, but continue light Main-exam preparation in parallel. General Awareness, Computer Knowledge and Language cannot always be mastered effectively in the short gap after Prelims.

For Officer Scale I candidates in particular, the calendar leaves only a limited interval between the Prelims examination and the Main examination. Building Main-level awareness early can therefore save valuable time later.

Common Mistakes IBPS RRB Aspirants Should Avoid

  • Preparing chapters without practising them under a timer.
  • Attempting too many questions with poor accuracy.
  • Avoiding puzzles because they initially feel difficult.
  • Ignoring General Awareness until after Prelims.
  • Memorising current affairs without revision.
  • Studying advanced Computer Knowledge while neglecting basic concepts.
  • Using too many books, apps and PDFs simultaneously.
  • Taking mock tests without analysing mistakes.
  • Comparing raw mock-test marks without considering difficulty.
  • Assuming an unofficial topic-weightage table is guaranteed for the actual exam.

Does IBPS Give Fixed Chapter-Wise Weightage?

No fixed chapter-by-chapter question distribution should be assumed unless IBPS specifically provides one. The official examination structure tells candidates the tests, number of questions, marks and duration, but the exact mix of individual concepts can vary.

Therefore, claims such as “exactly 5 questions will come from this chapter” should not be treated as guaranteed.

Should You Prepare From Previous-Year Questions?

Yes. Previous-year and memory-based questions can help candidates understand the style and level of questions, but they should be used as a practice and trend-identification tool, not as a prediction that the same questions will repeat.

A useful method is:

  1. Learn the concept.
  2. Solve chapter-wise previous questions.
  3. Take a timed sectional test.
  4. Review errors.
  5. Move to mixed mock tests.
