Overview
The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has approved the shortlist and cutoff marks for candidates eligible to appear in the Excise Constable (Aabkari Sipahi) Main Examination, under Advertisement No. 08-Exam/2026. The shortlist is based on normalized scores from the Preliminary Eligibility Test 2025 (PET-2025), and follows an order of the Allahabad High Court. 32,891 candidates have been shortlisted against a revised total of 820 posts.
820 Posts, 32,891 Shortlisted — Why These Numbers Are Different
These two figures are not comparable, and neither is wrong. 820 is the number of vacant posts. 32,891 is the number of candidates who have cleared the PET-2025 eligibility bar and are now allowed to sit the Main Examination — a separate, harder written exam that will actually determine who gets selected. It is standard practice to shortlist many times more candidates than there are posts at this stage, since the Main Exam itself will narrow the field further. Being on this shortlist is not a job offer or a final selection — it only means you may now appear for the Main Exam.

Why Some Candidates Were Excluded — Court Order Compliance
Per the notice, this shortlist complies with an order of the Hon'ble Allahabad High Court in Writ Petition No. A-68706/2015, Lalit Kumar vs. State of U.P. & Others. In line with that order, candidates who scored zero or less than zero (negative marks) — in either their actual PET-2025 score or their normalized PET-2025 score — were separated out before the Commission finalized the shortlist and cutoff marks based on the normalized score of the remaining eligible candidates.

The notice explicitly states no PwD posts were advertised in this recruitment — that's not a missing figure on our end, it's what the source itself says.
