Overview of UPSC Advt No. 09/2026
Unlike UPSC's civil services or defence examinations, Advertisement No. 09/2026 is a Recruitment by Selection notification. UPSC issues these periodically through the year for specialist, scientific, medical, and technical posts on behalf of various Central Government ministries and departments. Selection is generally through shortlisting plus interview, and only occasionally through a Recruitment Test (RT) first, depending on the number of applications received for a given post.
This particular advertisement spans seven different Ministries/Departments -- Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ayush, Culture, Defence, Health & Family Welfare, Steel, and the Government of Puducherry -- and 12 posts ranging from a single Agricultural Engineer vacancy to 18 vacancies for Civilian Medical Officer.

General Age Relaxation Rules
Beyond the category-wise age limits listed for each post above, the following relaxations apply where relevant (candidates must produce the prescribed certificate to claim them):
- Ex-Servicemen & Commissioned Officers (incl. ECOs/SSCOs): 5 years, subject to a minimum of 6 months' continuous service after attestation as on the closing date.
- Central/UT Government Employees: 5 years, for those with 3 years' continuous service in a post in the same line or an allied cadre as on the closing date.
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years, irrespective of whether the specific post is reserved for PwBD or only identified as suitable -- subject to the applicant's disability being 40% or more, and the applicant's age on the closing date not exceeding 56 years.
Where more than one relaxation could apply (for example, an SC/ST or OBC candidate who is also a Central Government employee), the source notification caps the combined relaxation -- SC/ST candidates can get a maximum of 10 years total (including their own 5-year category relaxation), and OBC candidates a maximum of 8 years total (including their own 3-year category relaxation). See each post's Age Limit row above for the base category-wise figure before any of these relaxations are added.
Selection Process
Selection is by shortlisting of applications followed by interview, or by a Recruitment Test (RT) followed by interview if the number of applications for a post is large enough to warrant one. Where an RT is held, a candidate must clear the minimum qualifying standard at both the RT and the interview stage to be considered.
| Minimum Suitability Marks in Interview (out of 100) | UR: 50 | OBC: 45 | SC/ST/PwBD: 40 |
Being called for interview is not itself an assurance of selection, and appointment orders are issued by the concerned Ministry/Department after the Commission's recommendation, subject to document and medical verification.
