Overview

The Indian Air Force invites unmarried Indian male and female candidates to appear in an Open Recruitment Rally for Agniveervayu (Other Than Science Subject), under Intake 01/2027. The rally will be held from 31 August 2026 to 7 September 2026 at two venues: Chumoukedima (Nagaland) and Sri Vijaya Puram (Andaman & Nicobar Islands).

Good to know — this is a region-restricted rally: Unlike a nationwide recruitment exam, this specific rally is open only to candidates who hold permanent domicile in the districts/states listed for each venue (see below), plus certain Children of Air Force Personnel (COAFP) categories. If you're not domiciled in these regions, this particular rally is not for you — watch the official IAF recruitment portal for rallies covering your own state.

Both activities at each venue cover: Physical Fitness Test (PFT), Written Test, Adaptability Test-I (AT-I), Adaptability Test-II (AT-II), and Medical Appointments. The rally commences from 6 AM onwards on each date, and candidates must report by 10 AM (cut-off time) on their scheduled reporting date to be permitted entry — late arrivals are not accommodated, so candidates should plan for possible delays in trains/buses/flights.

Eligibility Criteria

Date of Birth

Candidates must be born between 1 January 2005 and 1 July 2009 (both dates inclusive). If a candidate clears all selection stages, the upper age limit as on the date of enrolment must not exceed 22 years.

Marital Status

Only unmarried male and female candidates are eligible. Agniveervayu must remain unmarried during the 4-year engagement period — marrying during this time results in dismissal from service. Female candidates additionally undertake not to become pregnant during the engagement period; pregnancy resulting in Low Medical Category status is grounds for dismissal, and pregnancy disqualifies a candidate from selection into the Regular Cadre.

Educational Qualification (Other Than Science Subject) — Any ONE of the following:

  • Intermediate/10+2/equivalent examination in any stream/subjects, from a recognised Education Board, with minimum 50% aggregate and 50% in English; OR
  • Two-year Vocational Course from a recognised Education Board, with minimum 50% aggregate and 50% in English in the Vocational Course (or in Intermediate/Matriculation, if English wasn't a subject in the Vocational Course); OR
  • Three-year Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Automobile/Computer Science/Instrumentation Technology/Information Technology) from a recognised Polytechnic, with minimum 50% aggregate and 50% in English in the Diploma Course (or in Intermediate/Matriculation, if English wasn't a Diploma subject).

Exact aggregate percentage is taken as the whole number before the decimal, as printed on the marksheet — 49.99% counts as 49%, not rounded up to 50%.

Domicile Requirement

Candidates must hold Permanent Domicile of the states/UT districts listed for their chosen venue, evidenced by a Domicile Certificate from a Gazetted Officer in the Revenue Department (or another authorised official of that State/UT), obtained prior to the rally. The candidate's name and parent's name on the domicile certificate must match the matriculation certificate.

  • COAFP-I: Children of serving Air Force personnel (Officers/Airmen/NCs(E), or Unit Cadre Civilians paid from Defence Estimates) whose parent is presently serving in the relevant district, regardless of the candidate's own domicile status.
  • COAFP-II: Children of retired/discharged/deceased Air Force personnel residing in the relevant district, with proof of at least one year's stay, and the required Service Book/Discharge Book/Casualty Service Certificate documentation.

Selection Procedure — Sequence

  1. Verification of Eligibility — original/DigiLocker-verified educational certificates and other applicable documents are scrutinised at the venue before the Physical Fitness Test.
  2. Physical Fitness Test (PFT) — PFT-I (1.6 km run) followed by PFT-II (Push-ups/Sit-ups/Squats); see standards below.
  3. Written Test — same day as PFT, for those who qualify; objective type, bilingual (English & Hindi except the English paper); results declared same day.
  4. Adaptability Test-I (AT-I) — objective written test assessing suitability for varied IAF deployment conditions.
  5. Adaptability Test-II (AT-II) — conducted same or subsequent day, assessing adaptability to military life.
  6. Medical Examination — for those who clear AT-II, conducted in September at Jorhat (for 11 ASC / Chumoukedima candidates) or Sri Vijaya Puram (for 8 ASC candidates).
