📜 About the Notice

BPSC issued Advertisement No. 01/2026 earlier this year inviting applications for the post of Stenographer (आशुलिपिक) to be deployed at the BPSC Office, Patna. Following completion of the online application process, the Commission has now released the official Examination Programme dated 27 May 2026, finalising the date, time, venue and pattern of the Written (Objective) Competitive Examination. The exam will be held on a single working day in one sitting, covering a single subject — General Knowledge (सामान्य ज्ञान).

📝 Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme

Clause 2 — Nature & Marking

  • Question Type: वस्तुनिष्ठ एवं बहुविकल्पीय (Objective & Multiple Choice)
  • Total Number of Questions: 150
  • Marks per Correct Answer: 4
  • Total Marks: 600
  • Negative Marking (per wrong answer): 1 mark deducted

Clause 3 — Five-Option System (Unique BPSC Pattern)

  • Each question will have FIVE options: A, B, C, D and E.
  • Option 'E' = "प्रयास नहीं किया गया" (Not Attempted).
  • If a candidate does not want to answer any question, they MUST compulsorily mark option 'E'.
  • If a candidate leaves a question completely blank (does not mark any of A, B, C, D, or E), 1/3 mark will be deducted as negative marking for that question.
⚠️ CRITICAL TAKEAWAY: Unlike normal exams where blank questions = 0 marks, in BPSC you MUST mark option 'E' for every question you don't want to answer. Completely blank questions will attract 1/3 negative marking. Do NOT leave any OMR bubble unfilled — either answer (A/B/C/D) or mark E.

📊 Marking Scheme Summary

ActionMarks Awarded / Deducted
Correct Answer (A/B/C/D)+4 marks
Wrong Answer (A/B/C/D)-1 mark (as per Clause 2)
Marked 'E' (Not Attempted)0 marks (no deduction)
Left Completely Blank (no option marked)-1/3 mark (≈ -1.33)

🎯 OMR Strategy — Score Calculation

Score = (Correct × 4) − (Wrong × 1) − (Blank × 0.33)

Examples:

  • 100 correct, 20 wrong, 0 blank (30 marked 'E') → 100×4 − 20×1 − 0 = 380 marks
  • 100 correct, 20 wrong, 30 blank (0 'E') → 100×4 − 20×1 − 30×0.33 = ≈ 370 marks
  • 120 correct, 30 wrong, 0 blank → 120×4 − 30 = 450 marks

👉 Lesson: Always mark 'E' for skipped questions instead of leaving them blank — saves negative marks.
